This gallery shows you several plankton organisms (among thousands) that are collected every day by the RadeZoo Service of the Observatoire Océanologique de Villefranche sur Mer.

This album contains images of marine planktonic protists illustrating the tremendous diversity found in the plankton - the paradox of the plankton. The album was created and is maintained in the framework of the ANR-BIODIVERSITE project "Aquaparadox".

This album compiles images of fixed meso- to macrozooplankton digitized with the benchtop Zooscan imaging system and associated Zooprocess software suite (www.zooscan.com) developed at the Laboratoire d'Oceanographie de Villefranche, France (LOV, CNRS/UPMC). Organisms range from approximately 300 µm to several cm, and span across numerous phyla. At present, images are originated from 3 different projects: TARA OCEANS, POINT B long term time series and MOUTON 2007. We do not intend to organize them according to a strict hierarchical phylogenetic classification but rather as zooplankton categories. Therefore, the gallery structure will change in the future. Please participate in the improvement of the gallery by commenting, identifying organisms and correcting possibly wrong current identifications.
