Analysis of nutrients

Samples for nutrient analysis were collected from Niskin bottles opf the CTD Rosette in polyethylene bottles. From the beginning of the program to December 1994, samples were stored in the dark at 4°C and analyzed within 2 days. Since 1995, the samples were immediately frozen on board and usually analyzed within 15 days. There was no noticeable difference between data obtained after the two types of storage of the samples; this was monitored during two months during which the two protocols were used simultaneously. The samples were analyzed for nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and silicate using standard automated colorimetric methods (Tréguer and Le Corre, 1975). Analytical precision for these measurements was approximately 0.05 µmole kg-1.
